Lucchetti d’amore
When I saw this photo of two people in Mexico City in the midst of the swine flu outbreak, it reminded me of those whacky Italians. There is a recent fad called lucchetti d’amore – padlocks of love.


In Rome lovers write their names on a padlocks then attach the locks to a bridge.  The lovers then fling their keys into the Arno River. The practice apparently started in Florence on the Ponte Vecchio. As you can see from the photo above, the fad is creating an eyesore at many locations around the city. Police have been using bolt cutters to remove the locks – but to no avail.
