SAN DIEGO — Rain soaked the county and big waves pounded the coastline as a chilly storm moved over the region Saturday morning.
Snow and hail has been reported in Julian and on Palomar Mountain and Mount Laguna, with up to two inches forecast to fall by Sunday.
Chains are required on vehicles headed into elevations over 4,000 feet, with the California Highway Patrol reporting treacherous roads in the mountains.
At the coast, strong winds and 8- to 10-foot waves battered boats in Mission Bay, prompting lifeguards to close the channel to watercraft until further notice. Boats trying to seek refuge in the bay must be escorted inside by lifeguards.
