Race Around the World
The 2012 Volvo Ocean Race teams will be leaving Miami tomorrow to begin the 3,590 nautical mile leg 7 toward Lisbon in their race around the world.

The race, which is held every three years, started in Alicante, Spain on October 29, 2011. The team will arrive at their final port, Galway, Ireland, on July 1.

During the nine months of the race, the teams will have sailed over 39,000 nautical miles of the world’s most treacherous seas via Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Sanya, Auckland, around Cape Horn to Itajaí, Miami, Lisbon, and Lorient. Whew!

At the moment, Telefonica has a 17 point lead, but with PUMA Groupama and Camper close behind, the in-port races may decide the winner.
