A Day at the Beach
It’s Saturday morning, school’s out and what kid doesn’t want to go to the beach? The only problem is – its June. The water temperature is still on the chilly side – 60 °F, the air temp on the sand is 61°F, and you can’t see more than 20 yards through the fog.
How can this be less than 2 weeks before the longest day of the year, you may ask? The reason for this June gloom is that less than 60 miles away desert temperatures are in the 100″s. When the cold air off the Pacific meets the hot air off the Mojave you get fog.
Of course, back in the old days, a little fog never stopped any of us from having fun at the beach. I can still remember the sounds of top 40 hits coming from boom boxes and the smell of sunscreen wafting through the air – ahhh. Have fun – it’s summer vacation!
